For All You Aussies (At Least Sydneysiders)

If you’re one of those incredibly lucky people who live in Australia, something very cool is happening this Australia Day. This is only for Sydney residents unfortunately, but it’s still something that the rest of the country should be happy about. If you’re like me, when you do your real estate investing research, you don’t just use the usual tools to do the job. You also use Google Maps to really get a good look at the property and surrounding area you’re interested in. Problem is, we just don’t have those great up close shots that the lucky folk in the U.S get. Thankfully that’s starting to change. And even you just use Google Maps for fun this is still something worth noting. Here’s a snippet from the official blurb:

  • Google Australia is celebrating Australia Day 2007 by photographing Sydney Harbour from the air, and we want to make sure as many of us as possible squeeze into the picture.
  • So when you see the Google branded plane flying overhead this January 26th, hoist a sign, arrange your family into a fun formation or just get a bunch of friends together to wave.
  • The plane has permission to fly low and will be taking hi-resolution pictures like this one of people on ‘Het Plein’ in The Hague. Wear or do something distinctive to make sure you can spot yourself.

So if you live in Sydney, get yourself somewhere and hold the flag(or whatever you choose) high, and hopefully get yourself recorded. It’d be very cool to look in a particular spot and see yourself smiling for the camera. Right now, we all look like ants wandering around, whereas in other countries (inset), you can zoom in a lot closer.

Long Time No Write!

Wow! Hasn’t it been a long time between drinks here? I have no decent excuse. The truth of the matter is that I’ve been working on a secret project for someone in the world of internet marketing. I know that makes me sound like a spy or something, but they’re the simple facts. It’s a job, it’s secret, and it’s in the world of nternet marketing.

My post today relates to how well this project is going. My role was simple, set up spme opt in pages, build a targeted keyword list, get some traffic, and start building a database or list. The Google Slap that came and whacked many of us has actually worked in my favor.

My usual technique has been to throw as many keywords at Google as I can. Not this time. Google Adwords forced me to be much more targeted in my approach. I haven’t had a $5 or $10 a click keyword problem either. I’ve been getting decent traffic, and fair amount of clicks. But what I’m really proud of is my conversion rate.

For the first time in my history of internet marketing, I’ve achieved a conversion rate of 60%. Yep, you read that correctly, 60%. Quite a staggering figure, and one which I’m very proud of. I can thank Google and my targeted keyword list for it. I’m sure over time it’ll go back down again, but for now I’m going to savour the moment.

Google Trends Is Watching

Forget Big Brother (at least the T.V version), a new all seeing eye is out there and his name is Google. The great thing about this though, is that as a marketer you can tap into this data that Google is collecting and use it for for own needs. An article was put in front of me by a fellow Ultra Underachiever all about Google Trends. It’s a very good article, and one which I hope will have people start to realise the scope of what Google Trends offers.

A few weeks ago, Google took a big step toward changing things — toward
making the database of intentions visible to the world — by creating a
product called Google Trends. It allows you to check the relative
popularity of any search term, to look at how it has changed over the
last couple years and to see the cities where the term is most popular.
And it’s totally addictive.

I’m using this tool every day now, and you should be too.

Big News From Google

I think you’ll agree, that Google has some far reaching powers. Well, now it looks as though they’re going to take over the world of online payments too. Or at least that’s the plan. Whatever happens, it’s not something we as marketers can just ignore..

This could be a watershed week in the Google era. The June 28 rumored launch of a Google online payment system, last known as GBuy (see my Google GBuy specifics: ‘Could be a game-changer’ ), is setting up to represent more than just another Google “limited invite,” or “test,” or “beta.” Last week, Google set in motion an eBay style marketplace affiliate network, “Content Referral Network” (see my Google goes for the hard sell: New ‘Content Referral Network’ targets higher click-throughs, ad rates and new GBuy transactions ), most likely designed to serve as a platform for GBuy enabled product sales.
